Join the ACLU

Since the formation of the ACLU in 1920, hundreds of thousands of everyday Americans have joined us in fighting for the freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In the mid 1950's, a chapter of the ACLU was formed in Sonoma County. In a half century of activism and organizing, we have continued the fight and win some of the most important battles our community has seen. We hope you'll join us in continuing that fight.

Our issue areas include:

Economic Justice - Working toward equal treatment regardless of income or class.

Education - Ensuring that all have access to educational opportunities. Providing the resources needed to strengthen civil liberties knowledge.

First Amendment / Privacy - Speaking out for our First Amendment rights, and fighting against illegal and unwarranted violations of privacy.

Legal - Coordinating legal tactics and actions in support of our community.

News & Media - Publishing our quarterly newsletter, and coordinating events with local media.

PATRIOT Act - Fighting to repeal the most dangerous provisions of the PATRIOT Act.

Police Accountability - Developing greater awareness of police abuses, and implementing Citizen Review Boards in our communities.

Get involved! Help us protect and expand our civil liberties in Sonoma County. Volunteer.
